located in Ridgecrest and send/receive your emails. When available, you can even send/receive

your WL2K emails via the internet using RMS Express and it’s TELNET function.

One of the really cool things with using WA6YBN-10 and packet is that when the internet connection

is lost at the WA6YBN-10 station, WA6YBN-10 use HF to send and receive your emails to the distant

station. Your connection to WA6YBN-10 will still be the same using VHF packet.

There are a couple of drawbacks using the WL2K email system. Each message is limited to 50KB

after compression. RMS Express will attempt to compress your message. This works fine with text

files but not so good with pictures. You can send attachments, but the overall size of your message

cannot exceed 50 KB. This is the same for incoming emails. Anything over 50 KB in size will be

deleted at the WL2K server. No Bcc addresses are allowed. No one can send you an WL2K email

unless you send one to them first. And finally, because your emails could be sent/received via RF,

you need to ensure all applicable FCC rules are followed, such as no business communications, foul

language, etc.

PACIFICON 2012 will return to the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel. The

Pacific Division convention has the honor of also serving as the ARRL National

Convention. Plans are well under way to prepare for the biggest and best Pacificon ever! A

complete list of forums is in preparation. Marriott Hotel reservations are now available.

The convention rate is $109 per night plus taxes (approximately $120.46 per night). Parking

is free for hotel guests and day use convention attendees.

The deadline for room reservations at

the convention rate is September 26

. The youth involvement in last year's convention was

unprecedented. This year we will work hard to increase the youth involvement in our convention.

No doubt with national convention status, there will be an explosion of

exhibitors and vendors for our conventioneers. Pacificon will feature ARRL EXPO which is a showcase of
